Book Recommendations: Fantasy

Fantasy books have always had a special place in my heart.
Since we don't have a lot of magic and paranormal forces in our world, fantasy books give us a taste of the supernatural. Anyone with a good imagination can bring fantasy books to life and escape to another world full of magic.

As an avid book reader myself, I have read a whole lot of fantasy. From standalone novels, to series, the fantasy genre has a variety of stories to indulge in.
These are my top picks.

1. Thrones Of Glass series by Sarah J Maas.

This is one of the best books I picked up. It's about a teenager, Calaena Sardothien who lives in a kingdom with a very wicked ruler. The series follow her personal journey and life, imprisoned by the tyrannical ruler, forming bonds with unexpected people and soon discovers an evil plan while on her journey.

2. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

This award winning book is about the life of Made Marrow a Red thief who discovers she has powerful electrokinetic abilities.

3. Six Of Crows by Leigh bardugo

This one of a kind story follows Kaz Brekker who recruits five outcasts. Their plan is to rescue  a man who has discovered a powerful drug.
A deadly heist that will make them filthy rich
A thrilling read. It has a sequel, Crooked Kingdom.

4. The Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling

This series doesn't need an introduction. J.K. Rowling will go down as one of the most influential authors in modern fantasy. The movies were very good, there's no denying that, but it couldn't completely cover the beauty of the magic world. The series follow the life of Harry Potter, and orphan boy who finds out he's a wizard and has a powerful enemy looking for him -someone he might have killed once.

5. A Song Of Ice And Fire by George R. R. Martin

This series also doesn't need an introduction as the TV adaptation, Game Of Thrones is considered one of the best series out there. It covers the war among several families in a quest for the Iron Throne, the threat of the powerful Others in the north of Westeros and the quest of a dead King's daughter, determined to assume the Iron Throne.

6. The Children Of Blood And Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

This Yoruba fantasy story follows Zélie Adebola who sets out on a question to bring magic back the the kingdom of Orïsha.

7. The Demon Cycle Series by Peter V. Brett

This series is tells the story of three characters as they mature into childhood. Their world is terrorized by demons, known as Corelings, who rise up every night to attack humans.

8. The Discworld Series by Terry pratchett

This hilarious take on a fictional world where the earth is flat and carried by a giant Turtle is as captivating as it is bizarre. It is a captivating and creative parody of every notable fantasy story.

9. The Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K Jemisin

Skillful storytelling. Immaculate storyline. Perfect worldbuilding. This was one of the best series I ever read. It's set in a continent, with seasons of apocalyptic destruction and the orogenes at the center of it all.
I couldn't put these books down.

10. Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor

This literary masterpiece tells the story of Onyesonwu who is an ewu, her lower class dark-skinned mother was raped by her upper class light-skinned father. She goes on a quest to defeat her father, armed with her magical powers.

11. The Mist born Series by Brandon Sanderson

Sanderson gives us a genius twist in this well-written contemporary fantasy story. I'm not giving any spoilers. Go read this book. You won't regret it!

12. Shadow Of The Fox by Julie Kagawa

This Japanese based fantasy novel pulls you into a world of samurais and shapeshifters and demons. Yumiko is in possession of the first piece of a very powerful scroll. She meets a mysterious samurai who wants was she has.
Anyone who is a sucker for a little romance will love this series
